The Age Takes Centre Stage 2012 Festival is almost here!

The annual Age Takes Centre Stage Festival begins with a launch event at the Whitley Bay Playhouse at 11 am on Monday 1 October.

Age Takes Centre Stage is a special month-long gala of events, activities and special offers, specifically designed to encourage anyone over 50 living in North Tyneside to join in. Over 350 events took place last year, this year we aim to offer more!

The festival is a great way of getting involved, meeting new friends, taking up new hobbies, developing new interest groups & visiting new places whether it be a day excursion or sailing overnight to the continent, the choice is yours!

The festival will be marked by an Awards Ceremony on Thursday 18 October, sponsored by Age UK North Tyneside and hosted by DFDS Seaways on board one of their cruise ships at Royal Quays.

The Awards Ceremony will give nominees and invited guests a chance to celebrate the achievements of individuals and groups who have given something back to the community. In the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, community spirit is something especially worth celebrating.

Nominations for the Age Takes Centre Stage 2012 Awards are welcome for individuals or groups who have not been nominated in the previous two years who qualify under the following categories (Nominations close on Friday 31 August).

1. Older People Together – to celebrate the achievement of groups of people, based in North Tyneside, in which at least half of the members are 50 or over. The group should have given older people more opportunities to enjoy life and contribute to the community.

2. Individual Achievement in Volunteering – to recognise an individual, who as a volunteer, has given a lot to the community in North Tyneside.

Nominations can be made by completing the appropriate form, available here
